The Flight of the Sun
While the sun-lit continent is very much alive, everything else is not. The world beyond shores, veiled in mist, belongs to the ghosts of the past. These demons are, it is known, spawn of the elven kind, created just before the fall of their makers, and left there as a reminder of what happens when lust for arcane knowledge overpowers humility and virtue. The creatures in the mist, however, sometimes appear on the continent and smite those who fall from Sun god’s grace, thus no longer being out of demons’ reach. Sometimes, entire cities are devoured. It is only by the mercy of the Sun, and it’s avatar, The Emperor, that life on the great, not yet fully explored and inhabited continent still exists. People know this and are therefore, naturally, devoted to their God and his church as only those whose both souls and flesh are at stake can be.
